Moonsorrow is a pagan metal band from Finland. The band played the Manning Bar, Sydney on
Friday 22 November 2013.
Yet another “summer storm” was predicted for Sydney and the surrounds,
which seemed to keep the line up to get in at a minimum. Only the “hard core” metal fans lined
up.
Doors to the venue opened on time, but unfortunately not many people
lining up at the doors. The support
bands were “Dead River Runs Dry” (Aust) and “Germ” (Aust). A slow stream of people flowed in, and by the
time “Moonsorrow” started their set, there was around 150-200 people.
“Dead River Runs Dry” (Aust), played brilliant black metal and have only
been around since 2012. The crowd loved
every bit of their set. DRRD didn’t hold back on their performance. They came, they destroyed and then they left. It was the first time I have ever seen these
guys and I’m hoping it won’t be the last. A fantastic effort from DRRD.
Germ (Aust) played Experimental Depressive
Black Music. A very strange mix here! The
band was still very entertaining and the crowd seemed to enjoy it too. It was the
second time I have seen these guys, and they were a lot better this time
around.
This was the first time Moonsorrow (Finland) had graced the
Australian shores. The bands style has
elements of black metal and folk metal.
Moonsorrow like to call their music “epic heathen metal”. From start to finish, Moonsorrow were
amazing. The bands performance seemed
more like a party atmosphere then a gig, with plenty of drinking and dancing
and generally having a ball. Because the
band was enjoying their time on stage so much, it bled through into the crowd
leading an electric, pumped atmosphere.
