CD REVIEW: Review of Asphyxiate, "Self Transform from Decayed Flesh", by Andrew Sick of Sick Reviews

ASPHYXIATE-Self Transform from Decayed Flesh (New Standard Elite)

The Indonesian gods Asphyxiate are back to reveal their third and f***ing long awaited full length album entitled " Self Transform from Decayed Flesh"! F***ing true to their roots of pure brutality, Asphyxiate performs another Brutal Death F***ing Metal of high level of sickness with totally f***ing crazy riffs, blastbeats, with a superior production that gives this album to be ranked among the f***ing best! The band consists of Josh (Guitars/Vocals), Adi (Bass), Yogi (Drums) and the trio deliver an excellent f***ing job f***ing intelligently composed in a genius f***ing way! The riffs of that third bomb are all f***ing excellent and greatly played, we can say the same for the bass that brings its personal touch and the production which gives it an essential side, the vocals is also f***ing awesome, it could be a bit more guttural but still f***ing great and fit perfectly with the style of "Self Transform from Decayed Flesh"! The production of this album is perfect, the mixing is ingeniously made, the sound is also f***ing great maybe lacking a bit of heavy tones but this CD sounds like a real f***ing ton of bricks filled with f***ing shit! Its an addiction to all those appropriating this f***king shit because its a f***ing piece of sickness of high quality that can easily be compared with the f***ing best albums of the brutal scene! Get it or kill you! Perfect F***ing Piece of Sick Shit! 10/10

UMBRA MORTIS power attack: Willy Damien (lead guitar), Ambon Mortis (drums), Koko Mortis (vocals), Ukay Mortis (rythm guitar), Erick Mortis (bass)
My interview with Willy Damien (guitar shred hero) of UMBRA MORTIS (black-metal (early), power-metal (later), Jakarta, Indonesia)
By Dr Kieran James (University of Southern Queensland)
Online interview, 4 May 2012
UMBRA MORTIS line-up is: Koko Mortis (clean power vocals), Willy Damien (guitar shred hero), Erick Mortis (bass/ vocals), Ambon Mortis (drums)

Kieran James: Hi, mate. Thanks very much for agree to do interview with our websitewww.busukwebzine666.blogspot.com. These are the questions:

Kieran James Question 1: First tell us the band history, like when you start and who are the members?

Willy Damien (UMBRA MORTIS) Question 1: The Band was founded on January 15th, 1992

-Country of origin: Indonesia
-Location: Jakarta
-Genre:
Black Metal (early), Power Metal (later)
The Umbra Mortis' name, means "Shadow of death" founded on January 15th, 1992. We played Black metal music at that time...with the first band members: Ukay Mortis: Guitar, Fuad Zibril (Bass/Vocal), Danton (Vocal), Muchsin (Drums).

In April 1996..Umbra mortis released the first Album Alam Arwah kematian,
with label "RK music studio".
In April 2005..after we got a Shred guitarist From Japan, name Shishido Yutaka, Umbra Mortis released the 2nd album, Darkness Victory. We changed the band members here...and we starting play a power metal music style with scream vocal. The Members are:
-Ukay Mortis (Rhythm Guitar)
, Shishido Yutaka (Lead Guitar), Elvin Zaenal (Bass/Vocal), Ambon Mortis (Drums).
That was the classic formation but after that we got bad news: Yutaka must quit the band. He must go back to Japan, then Willy Damien came to join the band.
August 2006 we recorded one song for the compilation Metalik klinik 8
with the song title "Nyctophobia " under the label "Musica Records".
In December 2007 Elvin Zaenal quit from the band because of his jobs.
then we got Erick Mortis for the Bass and vocal. In 2010 Koko Mortis (New Vocalist) joined the band and now we are in progress making the Next Album. It will be pure power metal with the Clean Vocalist!

KJ2: What cities have you played shows?

WD2: Sure many times in Jakarta, and we went to several other towns, like Pekalongan, Jogjakarta, Lamongan, etc.

KJ3: How is progress for your coming demo or album?

WD3: Coming soon.

KJ4: Why you like to play power-metal?

WD4: Hmm I think sometimes power metal is similar with the classical music stuff...harmonic minor scales? and base of heavy metal is the pentatonic scales on guitar, the Great Tones...Good singer? and maybe power metal is more catchy and easy listening for people? hehe but we just want to play the base of metal actually.. heavy? or power ? are same... sounds like Iron Maiden, Manowar, Judas Priest, etc [KJ: that is good enough for me!]

KJ5: How to describe your style and what bands do you like?

WD5: Hmm style.?. I think all power metal bands are similar haha...although they have their own character. Let it be [what the other] people say about us, I dunno how to describe it hehe. We love power metal, then we play what is coming from our hearts...but for the guitar...I love Yngwie Malmsteen, and Marty Friedman...[KJ: ex-MEGADETH!] They are still my big influences...and for the bands? I love Helloween, Iron Maiden...but I listen to many metal bands too, from many genres...

KJ6: Everyone says Indonesian scene is huge for death-metal especially in Bandung and Kediri. Do you feel lonely playing power-metal haha?

WD6: yeaaah right, death metal?? Lonely? haha...we don't care about that, we just play what we want hehe.. still straight on power metal rules.

KJ7. What are your goals and plans for the band?

WD7: To still exist all the time in the metal scene...and release many albums...hmmm I really want to play out from here, Indonesia some day, I dunno...I hope we will have luck and maybe we play in Europe some day some how hehehe..

KJ8: What jobs do you have outside of metal?

WD8: I’m working as guitar teacher in Bigyellow music school Jakarta...all of the guys in the bands have a variety of jobs [outside the metal scene]...yes they are working too.

KJ9: What is your comment on the band VALERIAN? We interview those guys on BUSUK WEBZINE too.

WD9: Hmm I know that band...but I don't want to comment anything...every band has their own rules, beers and cheers, just enjoy it.

KJ10: Ok, pick your favourite: IRON MAIDEN or JUDAS PRIEST?

WD10: I love both of them.

KJ11: Number of the Beast or Powerslave?

WD11: Love ‘em, Number of the Beast 666 hahaha \m/

KJ12: British Steel or Screaming for Vengeance?

WD12: Same, I love both of them...haha. [KJ: I don’t think Willy understands this favourites game! You have to choose hehehe]

KJ13: Bruce Dickinson or Rob Halford?

WD13: They are Gods [KJ: Metal Gods!]

KJ14: Last one: Can you give us your favourite death-metal and black-metal bands? (Foreign or Indonesian)

WD14: Foreign Death metal bands>> Deicide, Obituary. Necrophagist, Vader, Death.
Indonesian >> Siksa Kubur, Eternal Madness, Noxa (grindcore).
Foreign Black metal >> Gorgoroth, Belphegor, Bathory, Mayhem, Windir. Darkfuneral, etc.
Indonesian Black metal> Valefor, Vallendusk, Ecternum, Dry. Ceremony of Circle, Fromhell.

KJ: Thanks very much for the interview and I hope to meet you when I go to East Java in October or November. Please keep playing power-metal. I grew up on this music. Don't let it die!!!

INTERVIEW: My interview with Olla of Yogya/ Jakarta death-metal band DEMEANOUR

Shattered Archtype EP by DEMEANOUR is out now through international label Core-O-Sive Records [USA]
My interview with Olla of Yogya/ Jakarta death-metal band DEMEANOUR
By Dr Kieran James (University of Southern Queensland)
Email Interview, 25 January 2011
DEMEANOUR is: Olla - Vocals, Rury - Guitar, Nomme - Bass, Simonte – Drums.

Kieran James: Hi, here are the questions.
KJ: You are a very interesting character and dedicated metalhead having two bands - Mindfreak and the internet band Demeanour. As you request we will just interview about Demeanour now. Tell us about the band history.

Olla: Well, I’m just lucky having friends who still trust me to be their singer. Well, Demeanour is established due to the desire to keep moving forward and make some music by playing what has never [been] played in previous bands. We [put all our heart in it] all here and now Demeanour is: Olla - Vocals, Rury - Guitar, Nomme - Bass, Simonte – Drums.

KJ: Tell us more your process for writing songs and communicating. What cities do the players live?

Olla: Lyrics are the fundamental strength binding in every Lyrics are the fundamental strength in [all] Demeanour’s music. That is translated through the character of each member without restriction. It is clear that our music sets free with easy listening and friendly concept.I live in Yogyakarta and the others live separately in Indonesia because of some kind of activities we have, so communication is crucial for us. As much as possible we ought to keep the emotional connection we already have. But we decided Jakarta as the hometown just to make [it] easier [to] meet each other.

KJ: Has it been very difficult managing an internet band?

Olla: There are always advantages and disadvantages. For the advantage itself is we just spare our little time before computer to record tones from our head, share it via email to each member, then fix it and done. It’s not too difficult; I think it’s more efficient in managing time to make songs. It’s sooner and right on our target. And the disadvantage is our internet billing would increase haha...

KJ: What are your goals and plans for the band?

Olla: Goals: As I told you, our EP titled Shattered Archtype was released by Core-O-Sive Records (USA) last year. Now we have got label and would release our first album soon this year. We [are] also having cooperation with [various] parties relating to the development of this band. Plans: we plan to make great albums and have some national and international tours.

KJ: I guess you saw our interviews here with some of the Yogya bands. What do you think of the Yogya death-metal scene?

Olla: Awesome...they [have] grown rapidly and diversely, lots of great new bands emerge.

KJ: What are your favorite metal bands in Yogya including young and old bands?

Olla: [All] bands are good I think but there are some bands I have watched their live performance as follows: Death Vomit, Septicemia, Hands Upon Salvation, Spider Last Moment and Godforsaken.

KJ: Do you think death-metal in Yogya is just a trend or it can stay strong in the future?

Olla: I cannot [put] it into words but I think you should know about this one. The death-metal in Yogya already exists because so far this city has [had] an annual extreme music event presented [for] more than 20 years, called “Jogja Brebeg”. And up to now lots of great bands have released their new albums. For me, future belongs to people who prepare for it now, so Yogya has prepared!

KJ: Why do you love to play death-metal and be part of the death-metal scene?

Olla: Because this takes a lot of talent, the techniques, the passion, the crowd, the artwork, those promote uniqueness and independence.

KJ: Any message for your fans?

Olla: “Thanks for your support!”

KJ: Thank you.

Olla: Thanks for the interview KJ, I really appreciate it.
Regards,
